Apple cider vinegar

It is often said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which is no surprise with it’s vitamin c content but also the vast range of minerals, trace minerals and beneficial micro nutrients. Does the same apply to apple cider vinegar ? Well, certainly not if you look purely at the nutritional content of apple cider vinegar as it has no vitamins and few other constituents apart from some important minerals

So, is cider vinegar the miracle healer that many believe or is it a product of the snake oil salesman? Well, as with most superfoods or super cures the answer is probably that it does have beneficial properties but is it is doubtful that it is a miracle product.

Florence Nightingale is quoted as saying  ‘It may seem a strange principle to enunciate as a very first requirement in a hospital is that it should do the sick no harm.’. The same principle should be applied to anything taken as a potential cure. I have found no indications that people have been harmed by consuming apple cider vinegar and of course we use vinegar in small quantities as a condiment but it is the responsibility of the reader to do personal checks and seek medical advice before consuming for health purposes.

Countless references are made to the uses and consumption of vinegar since its discovery more than 10,000 years ago.
